 Neutrogena Deep Moisture Night Cream

Night CreamI have been wanting a night cream for a while now because sometimes after washing my face at night, my face feels a little stripped of moisture, especially in the winter. I have a daily moisturizer that I use, but that one has SPF in it and my experience has been that if I use too much I have a shiny face and/or i break out. So I wanted something I could use generously and deep moisturize my face while I sleep. Enter the aptly named Neutrogena deep moisture night cream. This one is light enough that it doesn’t clog my pores or cause break outs. The formula spreads like a dream so a little bit will go a long way, plus it smells great.

Naked Basics Palette by Urban Decay

Naked Basics PaletteThis is definitely not news to any of us, but I thought I’d add my opinion to the pot now that I finally own this palette. I received this as a Christmas present and I couldn’t be more excited because I’ve wanted an all-matte palette for the longest time. I had my NYX Natural one, but I wanted a splurge item because I use matte looks just about every single day. I love the simple, natural looks I can create with this and the vampier ones too. This is quickly becoming my save-one-makeup-item-in-a-fire item. The great color payoff and quality of the shadows goes without saying, Urban Decay has great palettes.

I’ve Told You Now – Sam Smith

When I discover a song that just resonates with my soul, I listen to it a good 2-3 times a day for a couple weeks. This song has set an all-time record for me. Over a month has passed since I first heard it and I’m still in crazy over-listening mode. This whole album is really heart wrenching and fantastic, but this song especially is just so soulful. Cannot stop listening to it.

The Spectacular Now & White Bird in a Blizzard

I’ve come to really like and appreciate Shailene Woodley’s indie movies. The Spectacular Now is one of the most real young love stories I’ve seen in a movie. Young love is messy and awkward and all-consuming, and Woodley and costar Miles Teller do a phenomenal job depicting that. Watching these two fall in love onscreen didn’t feel like a movie at all, making it completely relatable.

White Bird in a Blizzard is a much darker movie. It’s the story of a girl whose mother disappears one day and how she copes with it all. It’s a raw story of young adults figuring their ish out, and again I loved Shailene Woodley’s realistic depiction of those struggles. Both of these movies are really well done and captivating, albeit for different reasons.

 B&BW French Lavender Candle

Lavender has been my scent of the month, so this candle is perfect. If you like lavender you’ll love this. It’s the perfect bubble bath candle, but I plan to burn it just about constantly.

Downy Unstopables Lush In Wash Scent Booster

I’m officially an old lady who gets excited about laundry products. I’ve been wanting to try these because I love when my clothes smell nice and I want that to last for as long as possible. Sticking to the lavender theme, I got the scent Lush which is AMAZING. You add some of these little pellets to your laundry and the smell is really strong on your clothes, which I personally really like. This product was made for me.

The Body Shop White Musk Smooth Satin Body Lotion

white muskEver time I’ve needed to apply lotion this past month, I’ve automatically reached for the White Musk lotion from The Body Shop. I’m a huge fan of clean and crisp smelling fragrances so this scent is right up my alley. Along with musk, it has notes of rose and iris. Apparently the scent of musk is suppose to be quite sensual. Well, I don’t know about that…all I know it that I really enjoy using this lotion.

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation

Hd foundation

Okay, not to be over dramatic or anything, but this foundation is easily the best I’ve ever tired. The formula is amazing! It’s long lasting, has medium/high coverage, and is super lightweight. A little bit goes a long way with this foundation, I usually only need one pump (and the built-in pump is super convenient). Yes, it’s a bit pricey but if foundation is an important part of your makeup routine, it’s well worth investing in a bottle.

I have no clue where to begin because there’s so much to say about my love and admiration for Stromae (Paul Van Haver) and his music. He is a Belgian singer-songwriter who is quite famous in Europe, but isn’t too well known in the States (possibly because he only sings in French). His music is described as a mix of hip-hop and electronic dance but I disagree because I think his sound is far more varied and intricate. I really appreciate the fact that he writes all his lyrics and composes all his tracks. Though some of his songs sound like “club music”, his lyrics go far beyond that. Stromae sings about real and relatable human issues, not garbage like popping your booty or getting wasted. I view Stromae as a poet because his lyrics are as impactful as his beats. Both of his records are incredible. Here are a few of my favorites…

1. Tous les mêmes

2. Ave Cesaria

3. Te quiero

4. Formidable

Manhattan Murder Mystery

For the past couple months, I’ve been trying to go through Woody Allen’s long list of movies. Manhattan Murder Mystery wasn’t one I was initially excited to watch but it turned out to be one of my favorites. Larry and Carol Lipton (played by Woody Allen and Diane Keaton) become suspicious about the sudden death of their next door neighbor and takes matters into their own hands in trying to uncover what really happened. The film is thrilling, witty, funny, and super amusing. I love watching the natural chemistry between Allen and Keaton.

Wide Brim Hat

wide brimm hat

This past month, I’ve found any excuse to wear my black Ecoté wide brim hat from UO. Indoors, outdoors, rain, shine, it don’t matter! think its the perfect fall/winter accessory.

Monthly Favorites

I didn’t have very many things this month that struck my fancy

Oh No Rachio!

Oh No Rachio!

Click to visit her blog

This girl does it all; everything from fashion to DIY to baking. I absolutely love her style and she has such a chic and fresh blog.

She is such a cutie. I love her outlook on things. Laura is totally down-to-earth and makes hilarious videos about every day situations. Her The Sexy Look video is what first got me hooked.

Roar – Katy Perry

“Ugh not this song agai….I’VE GOT THE EYE OF THE TIGER, A FIGHTER…”. Every time. Much like the rest of her songs, I didn’t love it at first but now I’m hooked. I can’t help but jam out every time it comes on the radio. Such an amazing pump up song!

Applause – Lady Gaga

Another song I wasn’t expecting to like. I can’t be the only one who’s glad that Gaga’s back…

Nyx Slim Lip Pencil in Prune

Photo cred: Peaches & Blush

I love to fill in my lips with lip liners because the color lasts way longer. Most of my dark lip colors are too bold for those days that I don’t want a neutral lip but don’t want to go all out either. This NYX liner is perfect for those days! It’s a beautiful plum-ish color but it’s not too dark either.

Joy Williams and John Paul White, known as The Civil Wars, just released the Sophomore self titled album.  I loved their duet album so I was very excited for their second album. Their music is beautifully written and their voices are in perfect harmony. Williams and White are two passionate musicians and it reflects in every song on this album. Here are my favorites…

1) The One That Got Away

2) The Devil’s Backbone

3) Eavesdrop

Trader Joe’s Nourish All-In-One Facial Cleanser

I absolutely love this facial cleanser, it’s one of the best (if not the best) one I’ve tried. I’ve been using this every night for about three weeks and it has dramatically helped to clear up my skin. I have had little to no break outs and I know it’s from this face wash because it’s been the only change in my skin care routine. So next time you’re at TJ’s grocery shopping, why not pick up a new face wash?

Sally Hansen Pacific Blue

This has definitely been my nail polish shade for the summer. It’s a lovely vibrant blue that I keep gravitating towards every time I want to do my nails. It’s probably a shade I will wear all year round.

His name is Chris Kendall and I think he is soo hilarious! Every one of his videos makes me laugh. Yes, his humor can be a bit rude but his sarcasm and amazing impersonations make up for it.  My favorite videos: 41 accents  and animal impressions one  and two. Click on them…go ahead, I assure you he will make you laugh (or at least smile).

January Favorites

Monthly Favorites

Hello hello hello! We cannot even begin to make up for our long absence, but we’ll start with this favorites post. Enjoy!

Spotlight – Mutemath

This group has the coolest music videos. This is a really great song to get ready to.
Thrift Shop by Macklemore [Explicit]

I find this song hilarious! It has an awesome beat, and it’s not something to be taken too seriously. I can’t stop listening to it.
All Night Longer – Sammy Adams [Explicit]

This is a really great pump-up son! I defy anyone to listen to this and not wanna dance around. So much fun.

(click the images to go to their channels)

I’ve always heard her name around Youtube and I finally decided to check her out. She’s very quirky and I love her personality. Plus she does really good, comprehensive reviews.

Two friends who take on crazy tasks and are just all around entertaining. They’re really funny, and their friendship is just adorable. Be sure to check out their hot pepper challenge video – it’s too funny!

Connor Franta

He is such a cutie! Look at that face. And to top it off he’s hysterical too! He’s quite strange which I love. He just talks about what’s on his mind, but the way he does it is thoroughly entertaining to say the least.

This collab includes the three aforementioned guys. I’m not crazy about every one of the other guys, but they’re okay. There’s one theme per week, and one guy per day does his own video on that theme. It’s a pretty cool idea.

Tazo tea in Refresh

This tea is just what it says it is – refreshing. It would be an awesome drink to perk you up in the mornings (although I’ve only had it at night…). It sounds strange, but I like to add a little milk to it for a tasty after-dinner treat.
Pepperidge Farm Sausalito cookies

Mother of yum these are good! I love macadamia nut cookies, but they’re usually made with white chocolate. But these have milk chocolate chunks. Perfection!!

Conair Infiniti You Curl hair wand

I’ve been wanting to try a curling wand forever! I love the curls that this wand produces. They’re tighter and more natural looking than regular barrel curling irons. Here‘s a picture of my hair after using the wand.

Wet n’ Wild eyeshadow trio in Walking on Eggshells

This is a really good everyday trio. The highlight color is a bit frosty, so if you want to use it in the inner corners of your eyes, beware of that. But I really love the crease color, it helps neutralize the other two rather shimmery colors very well.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri fast dry nail color in Co-Bolt Blue

This is an overall a great nail polish line. The applicator brush is super wide, and it has a  glossy finish. Plus it dries unbelievably fast! And this color is a really vibrant blue, whether you want a pop of color on an accent nails, or want an all-over bold color.

Febreze White Orchid & Bloom air freshener

I know this is a pretty random favorite, but I just love the scent of this air freshener haha. It has a very fresh, clean smell. And it isn’t a heavy scent that irritates my nose like most air fresheners.

American Horror Story

I decided to start this show even though it was a couple seasons in. I was obsessed- I watched all of the episodes in a week. Going into it, I didn’t know that it was a mini-series, which means that every season is a new storyline (but with some of the same actors. Confusing). To be honest, I liked the first season much more than the second. The first terrified me, but the second wasn’t as scary or captivating. But I have high hopes for season 3! The first season was about a haunted house and the second about an insane asylum.

This January I’ve been serenaded by two bands.

1) Modest Mouse : I love their quirky sound, attention grasping lyrics, and variety of songs. Such a good album.

modest mouse

Here’s my favorite :Satin In a Coffin

2) Hudson Taylor: I am simply spellbound by these two fellas. Two brothers from Ireland, Harry & Alfie, have moved to London and put together two brilliant EPs. They are such amazing musicians who put their hearts into each lyric and note. If you’re a fan of Mumford and Sons, you’ll love these guys.

It was really difficult but here are two of my favorites…

Chasing Rubies

Sorted Food

sorted food

I love to cook and have always enjoyed watching any type of cooking show. So, once I discovered these four bubbly and very entertaining “mates” on Youtube, I was instantly hooked. They have alllll kinds of recipes and they all look amazing!

Zoella280390 & MoreZoella

I’ve known about Zoe for a while but just recently started watching her videos. Zoella280390 is her beauty channel and MoreZoella is her vlog channel. She has a very perky personality and I really enjoy watching her haul videos.

Special K Chocolaty Delight

speical k

I only have one food favorite this month. I literally have eaten this cereal everyday this whole month. My favorite way to eat is with cut up bananas and 2% milk (which I know isn’t too good for me). Yumm just talking about it makes me wanna pour myself a bowl…

Beauty Blender Sponge

I wear foundation everyday and I apply it with my Clinique Flat Foundation brush (which is amazing) but I had heard great things about this blending sponge and thought I’d try it out and I love it! It truly gives you a flawless look but the only bad thing is that because it’s a sponge, it soaks up a lot of your foundation. What I like to do is apply my foundation with the brush then finish it off with the sponge to make sure everything is beautifully blended.

Blistex Medicated Lip Balm

Since it’s winter, I’m sure all of us have been suffering from dry lips. I have used Carmex Lip Balm for a really long time and thought to try something more heavy duty. This lip balm really worked for me! I apply it on at night before I go to bed and I wake up with much softer lips. It’s been my winter beauty must have.

Lush Mask of Magnaminty

On the Lush website they describe this mask as the “ultimate face mask” and I gotta say I definitely agree. It’s a deep cleansing face and back mask that is recommend to use 1-2 times a week. It’s a clay mask with peppermint and aduki beans to exfoliate. It’s sooo refreshing and brightens up my skin after each use. This is a product I will always go back to and repurchase.

The Mindy Project

mindy project

I am a huge fan of The Office so when Mindy Kaling created and starred in her own series I thought I’d give it a try and watch a couple episodes. If you loved Kelly Kappor you’ll love Mindy Lahiri even more. I find this show very very entertaining and I love that Mindy isn’t the typical Hollywood actress. She is hilarious and I really hope they continue the series after season one.

Monthly Favorites: November

Monthly Favorites

Sorry we’ve been so MIA! School, finals, life….but those are all excuses. We will be back full force soon!

Promised Ones by blessthefall

Dead Walker Texas Ranger by Sleeping With Sirens

I love this genre of music but I don’t often share my faves because I feel that it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But these two definitely aren’t too intense. I’ve had them on repeat this month!

P.S. 2:40-2:44 in Dead Walker Texas Ranger…OMG ♥

Three White Horses by Andrew Bird

Ella and I heard this song when we went to his concert way back in August. He said it was part of an album he would be releasing later in the year. We both loved it, and it was finally released this month. I absolutely love it! The entire album called Hands of Glory is just spectacular. Well done Mr. Bird.

Breaking Dawn Part II Soundtrack:

I’m quite sad that the Twilight series is coming to an end, but the sendoff was amazing, as was the soundtrack. These four were my top picks (in no particular order)

The Antidote by St. Vincent

Cover Your Tracks by A Boy and His Kite

Heart Of Stone by Iko

Speak Up by POP ETC

Stacy’s Bagel Chips

Screen Shot 2012-12-08 at 1.26.58 PM

I’m pretty sure I’ve had these in the past, but I just recently re-discovered them at my school’s market. They’re great when you want something crunchy. I’m loving the Simply Naked and the Everything flavors (but don’t plan on kissing anyone after eating those. Lots of onion and garlic!)

Starbucks Caramel Brulée Latte

Unlike everyone else on the planet earth, I don’t flip when I see the Starbucks holiday drinks come out. I’m definitely not a fan of the Pumpkin Spice latte (this is the part where you stone me then exile me to a far off land), and the other holiday drinks I’d tried were only okay. I hadn’t tried the Caramel Brulée latte because I assumed that it would be just like any other caramel latte, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that that wasn’t the case. I don’t know what it is about it, but it has a little something special and it’s very tasty! So now I can join the ranks of people who get excited for the seasonal drinks…because I finally have a favorite :)

Bath & Body Works Candles in White Barn Nutmeg & Spice and Thanksgiving

Another duh. Everyone seems to be loving the B&BW candles this season, and for good reason. I’m not allowed to have open flames in my dorm (boo) but my sister and I picked up a couple for our room back home. They both smell lovely! The Nutmeg and Spice smells like precisely that, and the Thanksgiving one is sort of nuttier. Give them a smell the next time you’re there. They’re a nice treat to come home to. They just make your whole place smell like the holidays. I definitely hope to pick up some more soon.

I tend to find new artists to listen to each month and they stay on constant replay for the ENTIRE month. For the month of November I discovered an English singer/songwriter named Lewis Watson and I’ve also been listening to The Lumineers self-titled album.

Lewis Watson

lewsi watson

He has two EPs out right now. One is called It’s Got Four Sad Songs On It BTW and the second called Another Four Sad Songs. The title of the EPs basically describe his music. Now you’re probably thinking I’m horribly depressed and I only like listening to gloomy music, but I promise that’s not the case :) (even though I tend to gravitate towards melancholy songs haha). The reason why I love his style is because it’s raw and heartfelt. Plus he’s got an amazing voice! Here are two of my favorites…

Sink or Swim

The Lumineers

I’m sure y’all have heard Hey Ho by the Lumineers but you must check out their other songs! Hey Ho only scratches the mere surface of their brilliance! Each song is a beautiful story with so much depth. The more I listen, the more obsessed I become. Now there is no way I can narrow down my favorite song but I picked two songs that I think best represent the album.

Big Parade

Dead Sea

Bonus: Now this song is not on their album but it’s one of my favorites.

Dont Wanna Go

Eucerin Original Healing Soothing Repair Creme

It’s that time of year when the cold weather makes your skin crack. The Eucerin creme was perfect for repairing the gross dry skin on my hands. I think it definitely helped because after applying it for about a week straight, my hands have been as smooth as a baby’s bum.

Lush’s Tea Tree Water

tea tree

This is probably my favorite beauty product of the month. Prior to buying this toner, I had never even stepped into a Lush store and boy was I missing out. That place is magical. There were so many things I wanted to try and the workers there were super helpful! I decided to start off with something basic and went for this Toner Water. Now if you don’t know much about Lush, all their products are vegetarian and some are even vegan and it’s all fresh handmade cosmetics. So everything is really good for your skin. I spray this toner after my night time facial cleanser and I’ve seen a big difference in my skin.I love this product!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

I’ve been wanting an eyeshadow primer for a while now so when my lovely cousin got this for me I was excited to use it. I have nothing bad to say about this product! Not only does it keep your eyeshadow on forever but it gives it an extra oomph. Thanks Cynth! :)

Love & Beauty Lipstick

I was pleasantly surprised with this lipstick. I was at Forever 21 and thought I’d try out one of their lipsticks. It’s not amazing but for the price, it works really well. I got it in brick for the festive Christmas season and I got to say I love the packaging.

Those are our November Faves. Hope you enjoyed :) And keep an eye out because in about a week we are going to be back and magnificently festive!

September Favorites!

Monthly Favorites

Sorry guys, we don’t have an OOTD for you this Monday. But fear not! We have instead our favorites from the month of September. For some reason, both of our lists were very media-heavy and didn’t have too many beauty or food items.

Olay Clean & Mild Make-Up Remover Cloths

These pre-moistened wipes were really good at getting my makeup off. I used them specifically for my eye makeup because I just feel a lot better knowing I’ve gotten all the mascara off my lashes before I go to wash my face. I feel like it’s more effective when I add in this step. They smell great and are very sensitive. The texture of the cloths makes them great for gently scrubbing your makeup off.

Click to check out his channel

His name is Matthias Harris and he is an extremely talented a cappella singer. He does covers of songs and also some original work. I first found him through the fan-cover compilation of Somebody That I Used to Know that Gotye did. (It is awesome btw, check it out here). Matt’s version is SO incredible! The only instrument he uses is his voice (well, and an egg shaker). I also like his Boyfriend cover. And the fact that he is one of the most attractive people that I have ever laid eyes on is just a huge bonus. His voice and talent are truly amazing. Check. Him. Out! (He also has another channel)

Click to check out his channel

Ever heard of DailyGrace? Well this is her baby bro. He is extremely awkward and has a very dry sense of humor, and I think it’s great. The awkwardness clearly runs in the family. I love it.

The Basics

Brb, dying

Ok I don’t even know how to begin to express how obsessed I am with The Basics. Once I discovered them I tracked down every single one of their songs (their music is extremely difficult to find) and literally had their entire discography on constant loop for weeks. I would not listen to anything else. This is the Australian band that Wally De Backer (Gotye) is part of. Some of my favorites are Lookin’ Over My Shoulder, Bitten By the Same Bug, Feels Like Love, Just Hold On, Rattle My Chain, and Three Cool Cats. But I can genuinely say that I love all of their songs. A lot.

Oxford comma [Explicit] – Vampire Weekend

This is such a catchy song! I hadn’t listened to a whole lot of Vampire Weekend but I really fell for this song. Some other faves are Horchata, Campus, and Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa. I love all the names of their songs :)

Laurent Moreau

Click to go to his website

Moreau is a wonderful french artist with several books. His work is mostly illustration-type stuff and I absolutely love the story that each piece tells. You can see some of my faves on my Pinterest Art board.

This past month I was listening to two albums and both were amazing!

1) Human Again – Ingrid Michaelson

I’m a huge Ingrid Michaelson fan! This is her newest album that came out January of this year. I didn’t really get a chance to listen to it until now. I absolutely love it! She is one talented lady.

2) Kings of Leon : Come Around Sundown

Kings of Leon is known for “Use Somebody” and “Sex is On Fire”. I got this album from my local library and wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I love their sound and the lead vocals. It’s become one of my favorite albums. I jam out so hard while listening to it haha.

1) The Fashion Citizen

Recent fashion blog I started following on Youtube. They are two sisters who post the usual fashion blog videos. The only videos I like to watch are their Goodwill/thrift hauls. They find amazing stuff while thrifting . I’m not gonna lie, every time I watch them I wanna go thrifting so bad! I linked the picture to their Youtube page if you guys are interested.

2) Lucy Spraggan

I’m a sucker for X Factor auditions, I find them super entertaining. She’s so unique and I’ve never seen an audition like hers. I assure you that this video will make you smile!

Okay so this second video is better than the first. She sings her original song Tea and Toast. It’s such a beautiful/heartwarming song.

1) Braque

I recently visited the Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale and they had some of Braque’s work displayed in their gallery and I was mesmerized! I find his abstract painting intriguing and I love his color palette. The painting above is called The Aquarium and it was painted in 1951.

I apologize for the lack of beauty  products this month. Stayed tuned because I assure you that our October favorites will be loaded with beauty favorites.
