Runway to Everyday

Inspired By

The looks that we see on the runway are often too outrageous or too pricey to be worn by the average person, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t serve as great inspiration. We’ve both observed certain outfits on the catwalk that dropped our jaws and got us thinking about how we could recreate them to fit our everyday lives (and budgets). We don’t necessarily want to create a piece by piece replica of the outfit but instead draw on the designer’s idea and infuse it with our own personal style.

Runway to Everyday - Audrey

This runway look is from the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2014 show. The entire collection drew on Sicily’s history with ancient Greece, one of the designers calling it “a dream of Sicily”. The flowers and flowing fabric make for an ethereal look while the chunky Grecian belt provides a contrast to the softness of the ensemble. I found this great dress on ASOS that doesn’t mirror the Dolce & Gabbana frock exactly, but has a similar elegance to it. The pastel floral print and braided straps are reminiscent of the Grecian feel in the Dolce & Gabbana collection. I would throw on a large, metallic belt like this one from Love Melrose to roughen up the look a bit.

Runway to EverydayThe designs of Hermès’ Christophe Lemaire stood out to me the most from the Fall/Winter 2014 Paris Fashion Week runway looks. The entire collection is inspired by menswear with beautifully tailored and flowing silhouettes in an autumnal color palette. This runway look achieves a perfect juxtaposition of structure and draping and could easily be converted to an everyday look. Fitted trousers and white button ups are everywhere in stores nowadays. I’ve opted for a gorgeous pair of black trousers from Zara paired with black ankle boots, a loosely fitted white top from Urban Outfitters, and a marble grey duster coat from Topshop. I know the menswear trend is not for everyone but I love how masculine attire can be beautifully translated into feminine style.

OOTD Monday: Arts District

OOTD Mondays

Since we were joyfully reunited over Christmas break, we headed to one of our favorite spots in LA. When we weren’t yakking away in one of the Arts District coffee shops, we took a sec to shoot an OOTD. The wall art is so funky and cool in that area, so it was the perfect backdrop. Enjoy!

OOTD Monday: October’s here!

OOTD Mondays

To be honest, I’m a little worried. This is the last OOTD that I have on file (and I shot it as a total back-up, so it’s not the greatest). I’m stuck in a dorm now so I’m completely unsure of how/when I’ll shoot the next one :/

It’s hard to tell from this picture, but what I wanted to show was the blue liner I had on my lower lashline. The only reason I draw attention to this is because my makeup is usually so boring, so this was a bit of a change. The liner is Love My Eyes in Royal Blue.

This is my “faux lace” top from Cotton On. I love the shape of it and how it appears to be [somewhat] dressy while still being super comfortable. It’s a definite go-to piece. You may see this item featured again only more dressed up.

You’ve seen both of these before. The pants are my jeggings from D’All Jeans and the sandals are from Forever 21.

This is my much-loved Prada bag. I adore this purse. I usually throw it on when I want to add some color to an outfit such as this one.

For accessories I went with these stack-able black bead bracelets from Express because, much like the top, they appear to be somewhat dressy while still being everyday-wearable. My sunnies are from a kiosk in the mall.

You guys might have seen this dress in the haul we posted recently. I love the fit and pattern of this dress. I dressed it up with some black tights, oxfords, and a bowler hat. Can I just talk about this hat for a minute. I’ve been wanting a bowler hat for 2 years but haven’t found one that I liked. I finally found the perfect one from Topshop but it’s $50 dollars and there’s no way I’m gonna pay that much for a hat. So, when I FINALLY found this  hat at H & M I got super excited haha. It’s almost identical to the one from Topshop but it’s only $15.Can’t wait to wear it throughout fall!

Dress : H & M

Tights : Macy’s

Shoes (you’ve seen many times) : Target

Hat : H & M

Since the hat is a signature piece in the outfit, I deiced to keep the rest of my accessories minimal with just some stud earrings.
