January Favorites

Monthly Favorites

Hello hello hello! We cannot even begin to make up for our long absence, but we’ll start with this favorites post. Enjoy!

Spotlight – Mutemath

This group has the coolest music videos. This is a really great song to get ready to.
Thrift Shop by Macklemore [Explicit]

I find this song hilarious! It has an awesome beat, and it’s not something to be taken too seriously. I can’t stop listening to it.
All Night Longer – Sammy Adams [Explicit]

This is a really great pump-up son! I defy anyone to listen to this and not wanna dance around. So much fun.

(click the images to go to their channels)

I’ve always heard her name around Youtube and I finally decided to check her out. She’s very quirky and I love her personality. Plus she does really good, comprehensive reviews.

Two friends who take on crazy tasks and are just all around entertaining. They’re really funny, and their friendship is just adorable. Be sure to check out their hot pepper challenge video – it’s too funny!

Connor Franta

He is such a cutie! Look at that face. And to top it off he’s hysterical too! He’s quite strange which I love. He just talks about what’s on his mind, but the way he does it is thoroughly entertaining to say the least.

This collab includes the three aforementioned guys. I’m not crazy about every one of the other guys, but they’re okay. There’s one theme per week, and one guy per day does his own video on that theme. It’s a pretty cool idea.

Tazo tea in Refresh

This tea is just what it says it is – refreshing. It would be an awesome drink to perk you up in the mornings (although I’ve only had it at night…). It sounds strange, but I like to add a little milk to it for a tasty after-dinner treat.
Pepperidge Farm Sausalito cookies

Mother of yum these are good! I love macadamia nut cookies, but they’re usually made with white chocolate. But these have milk chocolate chunks. Perfection!!

Conair Infiniti You Curl hair wand

I’ve been wanting to try a curling wand forever! I love the curls that this wand produces. They’re tighter and more natural looking than regular barrel curling irons. Here‘s a picture of my hair after using the wand.

Wet n’ Wild eyeshadow trio in Walking on Eggshells

This is a really good everyday trio. The highlight color is a bit frosty, so if you want to use it in the inner corners of your eyes, beware of that. But I really love the crease color, it helps neutralize the other two rather shimmery colors very well.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri fast dry nail color in Co-Bolt Blue

This is an overall a great nail polish line. The applicator brush is super wide, and it has a  glossy finish. Plus it dries unbelievably fast! And this color is a really vibrant blue, whether you want a pop of color on an accent nails, or want an all-over bold color.

Febreze White Orchid & Bloom air freshener

I know this is a pretty random favorite, but I just love the scent of this air freshener haha. It has a very fresh, clean smell. And it isn’t a heavy scent that irritates my nose like most air fresheners.

American Horror Story

I decided to start this show even though it was a couple seasons in. I was obsessed- I watched all of the episodes in a week. Going into it, I didn’t know that it was a mini-series, which means that every season is a new storyline (but with some of the same actors. Confusing). To be honest, I liked the first season much more than the second. The first terrified me, but the second wasn’t as scary or captivating. But I have high hopes for season 3! The first season was about a haunted house and the second about an insane asylum.

This January I’ve been serenaded by two bands.

1) Modest Mouse : I love their quirky sound, attention grasping lyrics, and variety of songs. Such a good album.

modest mouse

Here’s my favorite :Satin In a Coffin

2) Hudson Taylor: I am simply spellbound by these two fellas. Two brothers from Ireland, Harry & Alfie, have moved to London and put together two brilliant EPs. They are such amazing musicians who put their hearts into each lyric and note. If you’re a fan of Mumford and Sons, you’ll love these guys.

It was really difficult but here are two of my favorites…

Chasing Rubies

Sorted Food

sorted food

I love to cook and have always enjoyed watching any type of cooking show. So, once I discovered these four bubbly and very entertaining “mates” on Youtube, I was instantly hooked. They have alllll kinds of recipes and they all look amazing!

Zoella280390 & MoreZoella

I’ve known about Zoe for a while but just recently started watching her videos. Zoella280390 is her beauty channel and MoreZoella is her vlog channel. She has a very perky personality and I really enjoy watching her haul videos.

Special K Chocolaty Delight

speical k

I only have one food favorite this month. I literally have eaten this cereal everyday this whole month. My favorite way to eat is with cut up bananas and 2% milk (which I know isn’t too good for me). Yumm just talking about it makes me wanna pour myself a bowl…

Beauty Blender Sponge

I wear foundation everyday and I apply it with my Clinique Flat Foundation brush (which is amazing) but I had heard great things about this blending sponge and thought I’d try it out and I love it! It truly gives you a flawless look but the only bad thing is that because it’s a sponge, it soaks up a lot of your foundation. What I like to do is apply my foundation with the brush then finish it off with the sponge to make sure everything is beautifully blended.

Blistex Medicated Lip Balm

Since it’s winter, I’m sure all of us have been suffering from dry lips. I have used Carmex Lip Balm for a really long time and thought to try something more heavy duty. This lip balm really worked for me! I apply it on at night before I go to bed and I wake up with much softer lips. It’s been my winter beauty must have.

Lush Mask of Magnaminty

On the Lush website they describe this mask as the “ultimate face mask” and I gotta say I definitely agree. It’s a deep cleansing face and back mask that is recommend to use 1-2 times a week. It’s a clay mask with peppermint and aduki beans to exfoliate. It’s sooo refreshing and brightens up my skin after each use. This is a product I will always go back to and repurchase.

The Mindy Project

mindy project

I am a huge fan of The Office so when Mindy Kaling created and starred in her own series I thought I’d give it a try and watch a couple episodes. If you loved Kelly Kappor you’ll love Mindy Lahiri even more. I find this show very very entertaining and I love that Mindy isn’t the typical Hollywood actress. She is hilarious and I really hope they continue the series after season one.

August Favorites!

Monthly Favorites

These are some things that we discovered this month and loved. These include everything from beauty products to music and anything/everything in between.

*For your convenience, all the pictures link to their respective websites

  • Exit Wounds – The Script

Everyone’s heard Break Even by them, but this is a great one, too. You really feel his pain when he sings.

  • Give Me Love – Ed Sheeran

He’s been EVERYWHERE lately and I honestly didn’t think I’d like his music. I stand corrected. So far, this is the only song of his that I’ve heard, but I can already tell that I’m going to like his stuff.

  • Tomorrow Never Knows – The Beatles

I was surprised that I hadn’t heard this before. It’s more of their psychedelic stuff and I REALLY like it. It’s so different from the Beatles music that I’m used to listening to.

  • Chinese translation & Requiem by M. Ward

His style kinda reminds me of Andrew Bird. It’s nice, mellow music for when I’m in that mood.

  • Bowerdbirds

I LOVE their sound. It’s super folksy. Check out In Our Talons, My Oldest Memory, and Bur Oak

  • Our Love is EasyMelody Gardot

I heard this in a coffee shop and just fell in LOVE. It gives me chills every time!

  • Safeway Select Peach Pineapple Salsa – Its pretty sweet, but if you’re into that then this is definitely worth giving a try. It’s sweet but still has that tang to it (and it goes amazingly with fish).

  • Jacksgap – Such a cute British Youtuber! Very entertaining and easy on the eyes (plus he has a twin! Double the pleasure).

  • TheOliWhiteTv (formerly OliWhiteTv) – I was introduced to him through a collab he did with Jack. A little secret: I love british Youtubers. Just hearing them talk in their adorable accents makes me want to hit the subscribe button (but these guys really are talented).

  • Elizaplaystheguitars – She’s Jacksgap’s cousin. She is SO adorable! Her username says it all: she sings and plays the guitars. Her style is very Zooey Deschanel.

  • Pintester – This woman is hysterical! She tries out all the stuff she sees on Pinterest & blogs about how epicly they fail most of the time. Such a hoot!

  • The Beauty Department– Many many beauty pins come from this blog. It has so many makeup & hair tips and tricks. It’s definitely one of my go-to beauty blogs.

  • Big fish – I just found this movie really…nice. It’s (somewhat) family-friendly and it has a good message. The narration and effects reminded me of Pushing Daisies (anyone remember that show??). Plus, every single celebrity ever is in it (from Danny DeVito to Baby Miley Cyrus and everyone in between)

Woman with a head of roses

  • Salvidor Dali-I’ve always been vaguely familiar with his work, but this month I got really into it. Check out my Art board on Pinterest for some of my favorite pieces of his.

A World of Our Own Creation

  • Betsy Walton – I love artwork that’s reminiscent of children’s book illustrations but with a more grown up taste. Another artist like her is Jennifer Davis

  • ’81 – Jonna Newsom – The first time I heard of this song was a cover, so I checked out the original and I absolutely love it. Yeah, I’ll admit it’s quite strange but that’s what I love about it. I love the quirky lyrics and Newsom’s unique style.
  • Trembling Hands – The Temper Trap – I love these guys! They’re one of my favorite bands and this song is off of their new album.  When listening to their music, you can feel the emotion behind each note and word. They’re amazing!
  • Leaving Heartbreak Hotel – The Temper Trap – Another song off their new album. Once again…so good!
  •  Plain Gold Ring – Kimbra – I heard this song performed live when I went to see Foster the People and Kimbra was opening up for them. She was incredible live! This is a very mellow song and I’ve been listening to it on repeat recently.

Trader Joe’s Semi-Sweet CC Cookie Recipe – If you’re looking for a great CC Cookie Recipe, boy have I found one! Follow the directions behind the CC bag and after 30 minutes  you’ll be one happy camper! Enjoy :)

JacksGap –  Yup Audrey and I both discovered him during the same month. I might have a bit of a crush on him actually…

PointlessBlog – His name is Alfie and yes he’s English as well. I think he is just so adorable and I love a majority of his videos.

Sam Pepper – This guy has no social boundaries. His videos are so funny and entertaining. He always says what everyone else is thinking and it’s awesome.

MarcusButlerTV – “HEELLLOOO” is how he starts every video. He does mostly vlogs and he’s best friends with Alfie from PointlessBlog so they do a lot of video collabs/challenges together. Again, very entertaining.

Caspar Lee – He’s the only one in this little Youtube group who’s not an Englishman. He’s from South Africa and has the most random humor (and amazing hair).

FashionRocksMySocks – Youtube fashion channel that  I recently started following. Her name is Rhiannon and I love her style!

TV Shows:

Melissa & Joey – I love Melissa Joan Hart because Sabrina the Teenage Witch was one of my favorite TV shows growing up. Since I’m a fan, I thought I would watch an episode of her fairly new show (there are only 2 seasons) and I actually ended up really liking it! It’s an easy watch and I find myself laughing a lot during each episode.

Love & Beauty Ombre À Paupieres Eyeshadow-  I saw this by the cash registers at Forever 21 and it was about 2 dollars. I really liked the color and I thought it would be a perfect for everyday wear. I literally have been wearing it everyday for this past month. I love it! It kind of reminds me of MAC’s rice paper.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC37 – I got this as a gift about a year ago and I just recently started wearing it. I think its a great light weight foundation with great coverage!

Smith’s Rosebud Salve Balm – This is probably my official favorite product of the month. I wear it everyday! It’s somewhere between a chapstick and lipgloss. It really hydrates my lips and I will definitely repurchase it.

Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara – All the hype you’ve been hearing about this product is true. I’ve wanted to try it for so long but always thought $25 for mascara is ridiculous. But, I finally treated myself and I gotta say  it’s worth every penny.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk – Omgosh this product smells SO SO good. I don’t know about you guys but after I straighten/curl my hair there’s a slight gross burnt smell. This smoothing milk helps remove that smell and also helps with frizz. This bottle has lasted me for months and there is still plenty of product left. I really recommend it!

Those are our monthly favorites. If you’re familiar with any of the things we mentioned, let us know what you think! Hope this was helpful. Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite for your list ! Stay tuned for our September favorites :)
